National Epilepsy Week
EDM number 652 in 1998-99, proposed by Stephen Twigg on 17/05/1999.
That this House welcomes National Epilepsy Week which is being held from 15th to 22nd May 1999; recognises that epilepsy remains an 'orphan' condition, despite affecting 420,000 people, one in 200 of the UK population, including 100,000 children, making it 100 times more prevalent than motor neurone disease and 10 times more prevalent than multiple sclerosis; urges that the Government addresses the prevalence and significance of 'hidden' disabilities - long term medical conditions which are not physically visible; and pledges its support to the All Party Parliamentary Group on Epilepsy which is being run in conjunction with the UK-wide Joint Epilepsy Council.
This motion has been signed by a total of 61 MPs.
