Racism And Mal Hussain
EDM number 646 in 1998-99, proposed by Audrey Wise on 13/05/1999.
That this House notes the public's revulsion against racism, in particular the recent nail bombings, and their desire to oppose all forms of racism, and welcomes the steps already taken by the Government following the Macpherson Report; expresses its support for Mal Hussain and Linda Livingstone's courageous stand against an eight year-long ordeal of severe racial harassment on the Ryelands Estate, Lancaster, recently described by the Guardian newspaper, which has included racial abuse, arson, physical attacks, damage to property, threats to their life and gunshots; urges the appropriate authorities to take whatever action is necessary to end this terror and to bring its perpetrators to justice; believes that if Mr Hussain and Mrs Livingstone cannot any longer bear the danger to which they feel exposed on the Ryelands Estate they should be able to move without suffering financial loss; and urges Lancaster City Council and all other appropriate agencies to do what they can to facilitate this.
This motion has been signed by a total of 39 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
