Electoral Procedure
EDM number 581 in 1998-99, proposed by Louise Ellman on 22/04/1999.
That this House recognises that the electoral law relating to procedure in local elections has not changed since the Ballot Act 1872; supports the Local Government Associations's call for urgent reform of antiquated procedures to enable people to vote at more convenient locations and times; calls for the Ministerial Working Party set up by the Home Office to implement changes to electoral procedure in time for next year's local government elections; and supports the innovative work of all local authorities to encourage voter turnout and recognises that changes to legislation will help increase turnout and renew local democracy.
This motion has been signed by a total of 66 MPs.
