Central Station Warrington

EDM number 536 in 1998-99, proposed by Helen Southworth on 14/04/1999.

That this House views with serious concern the decision by First North Western to withdraw platform staff from Central Station, Warrington, and leave the station unstaffed from 8.40 p.m.; notes that the station provides important public transport services for people travelling to and from work or using the facilities of Warrington Town Centre; considers that staffing of this station is essential to ensure that all members of the local community and particularly people with disabilities can access the public rail services effectively and in comfort; believes that the proposed staff cuts pose an unacceptable risk to the safety of passengers and that public safety, particularly the safety of women travellers and those travelling alone at night, requires that this important station should be staffed; and calls on First North Western to restore public confidence in their ability to provide appropriate services by cancelling the proposed job cuts at Warrington Central Station.

This motion has been signed by a total of 46 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
