Med Tv

EDM number 469 in 1998-99, proposed by John Austin on 23/03/1999.

That this House expresses concern at the decision of the Independent Television Commission to suspend the licence of MED TV; acknowledges that MED TV is the first international Kurdish language satellite television channel, serving an estimated Kurdish audience of 35 million people across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa; notes that MED TV's wide range of programmes is broadcast in all Kurdish dialects, Turkish, Arabic and Assyrian and that it is the only broadcast medium in Turkey for the expression of Kurdish culture, language and news; recalls the persistent attempts by the Turkish authorities to silence MED TV, including illegal jamming of transmissions; and calls upon the ITC to reinstate the licence immediately.

This motion has been signed by a total of 11 MPs.
