84th Anniversary Of The Armenian Massacres
EDM number 468 in 1998-99, proposed by John Austin on 23/03/1999.
That this House notes that 1999 marks the 84th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide rightly referred to as the first genocide of this century; further notes that although it is now the threshold of the new millennium, this massive crime against humanity committed by the Turkish state remains largely unrecognised by the world and denied by the perpetrator; expresses concern that the fragile existence of the new independent Republic of Armenia is under constant threat from Turkey; and condemns Turkey's refusal to establish diplomatic relations with Armenia and the illegal blockade which it has implemented since Armenia's independence.
