Retained Firefighters Of Lancaster

EDM number 443 in 1998-99, proposed by Hilton Dawson on 17/03/1999.

That this House commends the retained firefighters at Lancaster (A11) fire station for their exemplary service responding to 200-300 callouts per year across the largest station area in Lancashire, and in 1998 alone being the first appliance to an incident on 29 occasions; believes it is a matter of serious public concern that Lancashire Combined Fire Authority has departed from its usual excellent standards and is proposing to disestablish the Lancashire retained pump in order to save ú39,000; and calls upon the Secretary of State for the Home Department to recognise the needs of the expanding population of Lancaster for a first-class fire service and to dismiss the fire authority's proposal and to ensure that Lancaster's retained firefighters are allowed to continue their first-class work.

This motion has been signed by a total of 13 MPs.
