Duty On Road Fuel Gases
EDM number 435 in 1998-99, proposed by Tim Loughton on 16/03/1999.
That this House welcomes the 29 per cent. cut in duty on road fuel gases; notes that road fuel gases offer an immediate and substantial opportunity to improve air quality; commends the Department of Social Security on becoming the greenest in Whitehall by adding 12 liquefied petroleum gas vehicles to the 15 environmentally friendly vehicles already in their fleet; urges other departments to match and surpass this achievement in order to take the lead in encouraging fleet managers nationwide to convert to environmentally friendly fuels; and urges the Government to maintain their fiscal encouragement for the United Kingdom market so that the benefits already being enjoyed by other countries such as Italy with 1.1 million environmentally friendly vehicles can be fully experienced in the United Kingdom.
