Noise In The Workplace
EDM number 421 in 1998-99, proposed by Andrew Dismore on 12/03/1999.
That this House welcomes the launch of Indecent Exposure, a joint report on the need to address the dangers of noise in the workplace, by the RNID and TUC, in the House on Tuesday, 16th March; recognises that the effect and economic cost of damaging exposure to noise are both cumulative and avoidable; notes with alarm the lack of compliance of many employers with the existing Noise at Work Regulations 1989; calls for a concerted awareness-raising drive, improved training, and research and guidelines on assessing and controlling noise risk for employees in call centres and other new industries; and urges the Government, Health and Safety Executive and employers to work in partnership with the RNID, the TUC and employees to raise awareness of their practical commitment to addressing the important issue of Indecent Exposure to noise at work.
