Panorama, The Supermarkets, The Nfu And Boots The Chemist
EDM number 40 in 1998-99, proposed by Teddy Taylor on 25/11/1998.
That this House deplores the wholly misleading Panorama programme on Monday 23rd November, which ignored the fact that ever-increasing subsidied food production was the basic problem of agriculture; believes that the NFU should apologise to the general public for the ú13 per week extra they have to pay for food, to the Third World for the distortion of prices caused by the costly dumping and surpluses, and to the Almighty for the ú600,000 being spent daily on food destruction; and invites Panorama to explain why shareholders in Sainsburys have gained only 29.4 per cent. in share prices and dividends over the past five years by comparison with shareholders in Boots the Chemist who have gained 173.2 per cent.
This motion has been signed by a total of 1 MPs.
