75th Anniversary Of The British Leprosy Relief Association

That this House congratulates LEPRA, the British Leprosy Relief Association, on its 75th Anniversary; acknowledges that since 1924 this charity has been caring for and curing people of leprosy around the world and helping to prevent others from getting the disease; notes that there are currently more than two million people suffering from leprosy, an estimated four million others who have disabilities as a result of the disease, and that more than 600,000 new patients are diagnosed each year, 100,000 of them children; applauds the efforts of LEPRA staff, past and present, both in the UK and world-wide for all they have done and continue to do to help those suffering from leprosy or its consequences; acknowledges that LEPRA relies on its dedicated volunteers in raising funds in order to finance its activities; and wishes all concerned continuing success with the charity's caring work and efforts to eliminate the disease.
