Moratorium On Genetically-Modified Crops
EDM number 311 in 1998-99, proposed by Norman Baker on 11/02/1999.
That this House believes that decisions on genetically-modified crops should be based on the best scientific advice available; notes with approval that DETR and MAFF have initiated a large number of studies into the impact of genetically-modified crops on the environment; calls upon the Government to implement the advice given to it by its statutory wildlife advisor, English Nature, and introduce forthwith a moratorium on the commercial planting of genetically-modified crops until such time as all relevant studies have been received and analysed and likewise the result of field trials of genetically-modified crops have been fully assessed; and congratulated the Independent on Sunday on its campaign to achieve this.
