UK Car Prices
EDM number 275 in 1998-99, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 03/02/1999.
That this House believes that the current system of new car distribution and sales is profoundly anti-consumer and is the main reason for United Kingdom citizens having to pay far more for their new cars than their counterparts in Europe; notes that this situation has been largely caused by the block exemption granted to the car sector under European competition law; notes that this block exemption is due for review by 2002 and welcomes the campaign by the Consumer's Association for its abolition; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to oppose the renewal in any form of this profoundly anti-competitive and anti-choice measure.
This motion has been signed by a total of 77 MPs.
