Extension Of The Gas Supply Network
EDM number 274 in 1998-99, proposed by Michael Clapham on 03/02/1999.
That this House is concerned that as the millennium approaches there are still about eight million households in the United Kingdom not connected to the domestic gas supply, including the villages of Stainborough, Hood Green, Wortley, Green Moor and Crow Edge in the constituency of Barnsley West and Penistone, forcing housholders to use alternative sources of heating, most of which are substantially more expensive than natural gas; believes the provision of domestic gas to be an essential service, which should, where possible, be available for all; and asks the Government to urge the Director General of Gas Supply to enter into discussions with the public gas transporters to explore what new initiatives are required to promote an extension of the gas supply network to all households where it is practicable to do so.
This motion has been signed by a total of 31 MPs.
