Countryside Agency

EDM number 272 in 1998-99, proposed by Charles Kennedy on 03/02/1999.

That this House welcomes the prospect of the appointment of a Chairman of the Countryside Agency, which starts work in less than nine weeks' time; and stresses that the Chairman must be someone who will be a champion for a living, working countryside, who can command the respect of the country and urban dwellers alike. who will give impartial and informed advice to Ministers on all rural matters, who will promote sustainable development, prosperity and recreation in the countryside and who will bring a forward looking and practical approach to overcoming problems, rather than resorting to outdated prejudice and unusable dogma.

This motion has been signed by a total of 26 MPs.
