Conduct Of The Right Honourable Lord Jenkins Of Hillhead
EDM number 245 in 1998-99, proposed by Martin Salter on 26/01/1999.
That this House regrets the recent attacks on the integrity, performance and competence of honourable Members by the Right honourable Lord Jenkins of Hillhead in a recent BBC interview on electoral reform; notes that the large majority of honourable Members of this House are far from know nothing, do nothing, think nothing politicians, and that constituency casework has increased considerably in recent years; rejects Lord Jenkins' assertion that the number of honourable Members should be reduced by a third; and furthermore believes the important debate on electoral reform should be conducted above the level of abuse and insults and instead should concentrate on examining systems which retain the vital constituency link.
