Proud To Serve British Campaign
EDM number 210 in 1998-99, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 19/01/1999.
That this House congratulates the National Farmers' Union on its Proud to Service British Campaign, aimed at persuading British caterers to buy and serve British farm produce; notes that this campaign was launched on 3rd November 1998 at the Hyde Park Barracks in London with the armed forces agreeing to serve 100 per cent. British beef and was marked by a reception in the House of Commons on 19th January, when it was announced that so far it has secured the support of over 150 major catering outlets, including Macdonald's, Booker Food Services, numerous hotels and pubs around the country and the House of Commons Refreshment Department, who are all proud to Serve British; notes the Government's wholehearted support for this campaign; and hopes that Proud to Serve British will continue to raise awareness of the quality of British produce and encourage British people and catering outlets to take positive steps to ensure the food they are buying is of British source.
