Access To Nhs Treatment
EDM number 199 in 1998-99, proposed by Clive Efford on 18/01/1999.
That this House believes that no one should be denied access to health treatments proven to be effective and clinically necessary because of their inability to pay; rejects Conservative arguments for rationing in the NHS which would result in patients being denied treatments that are available to those who can afford to purchase healthcare in the private sector; calls on the Government to continue with its programme of regenerating the NHS; and further calls on the Government to ensure that the NHS remains equally accessible in all parts of the United Kingdom, free at the point of delivery and funded on the basis of each individual's ability to contribute through a progressive tax system.
