Instrumental Tuition
EDM number 198 in 1998-99, proposed by Charles Kennedy on 18/01/1999.
That this House welcomes the vote by the Highland Council's Education Committee in favour of reinstating free instrument tuition in its schools; notes that the income raised through fees rarely covers more than a small proportion of the actual cost of providing instrumental tuition yet acts to prevent many children from learning instruments; considers that instrumental tuition is a vital component of a well-rounded school curriculum; and calls upon the Government to do all that it can to ensure that instrumental tuition is available to all children, regardless of background.
