Contraceptive Advice In Schools
EDM number 193 in 1998-99, proposed by Jenny Tonge on 18/01/1999.
That this House welcomes the innovative work being done by Viv Gouch, the school nurse at Hayesfield Upper School; notes that her weekly clinic session enables pupils at the school to seek confidential advice and be referred to nearby GPs for emergency contraception when necessary; notes that the number of girls in the school becoming pregnant has reduced significantly since this initiative began; and recommends to the Government that this model be replicated in other schools especially where there are high pregnancy rates among under 16s.
This motion has been signed by a total of 60 MPs, 2 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
