British Nuclear Test Veterans

EDM number 19 in 1998-99, proposed by Adrian Sanders on 24/11/1998.

That this House notes the 20th May 1953 Atomic Weapons Trials Report by the Defence Research Policy Committee which states 'the army must discover the detailed effects of various types of explosion on equipment, stores and men and with and without various types of protection'; further notes the decision of the European Commission of Human Rights that found the British Government liable for violating the legal rights of British nuclear test veterans to obtain war pensions and compensation for radiation linked illnesses; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to follow the lead of the United States Government and settle the claims of people harmed from the fall-out from British nuclear tests.

This motion has been signed by a total of 54 MPs.
