Reform Of The House Of Lords

EDM number 178 in 1998-99, proposed by David Chaytor on 13/01/1999.

That this House congratulates the Government on the progress to date in abolishing the voting rights of hereditary peers; looks forward to the early completion of the second stage of reform; firmly believes that the reformed second chamber should ultimately consist entirely of elected members; and calls on the Government to extend the promised referendum on the voting system to include both Houses of Parliament.

This motion has been signed by a total of 26 MPs.
