Royal Hospital, Haslar

EDM number 134 in 1998-99, proposed by Peter Viggers on 16/12/1998.

That this House recognises the crucial contribution made to British armed forces by the Defence Medical Services; notes the current serious shortage of doctors, nurses and other medical staff in the Army, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force; recalls that the Royal Hospital Haslar was chosen in 1994 after extensive discussion as the single tri-service hospital and centre of medical excellence; observes that the Defence Medical College has been moved to a site adjacent to Haslar and that the Institute of Naval Medicine is also located in Haslar; agrees that Defence Medical Services should now be strengthened; and urges that this objective will not be achieved by closing the only tr-service hospital but by confirming its role and developing it as originally planned when the choice of Haslar was made.

This motion has been signed by a total of 12 MPs.
