Rod Fishing In Scottish Salmon Rivers
EDM number 122 in 1998-99, proposed by Robert Smith on 15/12/1998.
That this Housed recognises the importance of rod fishing in Scotland's salmon rivers and in particular the contribution made to local economies; notes with concern the recent fall in salmon catches in Britain's rivers; believes that this is attributed to a number of factors, including environmental change, pollution, predation, poaching and over-fishing; welcomes the work of fishing improvement associations such as those on the Dee; and calls upon the Government to take measures to conserve and improve salmon stocks, particularly with regard to the factors above.
