Conduct Of The Prime Minister (No. 4)

EDM number 1011 in 1998-99, proposed by Peter Bottomley on 10/11/1999.

That this House regrets that the Prime Minister claimed that married couples retiring in the next tax year will keep the married couple's allowance, and regrets that the Prime Minister claimed, without qualification, that 'the married couple's allowance is actually being kept for pensioners'; invites the Prime Minister to bring in a system to check when he is mis-speaking and to issue correction notices when appropriate; and asks the Prime Minister, in the next session, to take the first opportunity to confirm that new pensioners will not gain or gain from the married couple's allowance now worth up to ú500 a year.
