South London Partnership Against Racism
EDM number 867 in 1997-98, proposed by John Austin on 02/03/1998.
That this House congratulates Charlton Athletic FC and Greenwich Council on their successful Red, White and Black day at the Valley on 28th February; notes that South London has a strong multi-racial footballing tradition which has not always been reflected in other spheres of the game and that the composition of the crowds of supporters does not reflect the multi-racial diversity of the area; welcomes the South London Partnership Against Racism involving among others Charlton Athletic, Millwall and Crystal Palace football clubs, the local authorities, supporters' groups and the police; looks forward to the programme of events being organised by the Partnership and the dynamic and positive campaign to effect change at all levels of local football; and congratulates all those working together to make their local stadia reflect the cultural diversity of the area, to create a safe and friendly sporting environment in which ethnic minority fans can participate and to kick racism out of football.
