Foreign Language Students

That this House notes with concern the lack of regulations to protect young people who come to this country to learn English, that the current laws only apply to young people living in the same place for more than 28 days and that many firms do not make proper checks into the host families which accommodate their students; and calls on the Government to amend the relevant regulations to protect young people who are placed in short-term accommodation with another family by a third party through the registration and inspection of language schools and host families and to prohibit language students from being accommodated in the home of a person convicted of an offence against children.
