Court Closures

EDM number 763 in 1997-98, proposed by Bob Russell on 10/02/1998.

That this House, alarmed at the closure of magistrates' courts throughout the country, implemented by non-elected magistrates courts' committees against the declared wishes of the local communities involved, including the opposition of democratically elected councils and honourable and Right honourable Members, calls on the Government to halt all further closures pending a full independent review of the consequences of closures which have already occurred and of those courts currently under threat of closure.
