Life Long Learning Initiatives

That this House notes the success of the sixth annual Adult Learners Week (19th to 25th May) organised by NIACE and acknowledges its contribution to the promotion of lifetime learning; congratulates the winners of the New Learning Opportunities Awards, designed to disseminate good practice and stimulate new learning methods to encourage adult participation in education and training; and in particular notes the awards won by the universities of North London, East Anglia, and University of Wales, Lampeter, in recognition of their work in progressing higher education for refugees, opening up access to science courses, and advancing open and distance learning; and the awards for Fircroft College, near Birmingham, the Chub Nilsthorpe Resource Centre, Nottinghamshire, the Open Learning Unit, Dingwall, City College, Norwich and Lambeth Health Care in the areas of learning for disadvantaged groups, learning and individual commitment, use of new techology and out reach learning in the workplace.
