Consultation With Disabled Children (No. 2)
EDM number 722 in 1997-98, proposed by Ken Livingstone on 02/02/1998.
That this House welcomes the Government's initiative towards inclusive education; calls for the 1996 Education Act and SEN Tribunal Regulations 1995 to be amended so that children have the right to initiate and attend the SEN tribunal proceedings in their own name; and calls for the SEN tribunal proceedings to be made more accessible so that disabled children, including those with learning difficulties, are able, with independent support, to prepare and present their own cases for their preferred schooling and support being offered to them, thus bringing children's rights in line with the National Convention On The Rights Of the Child and the Children Act 1989.
