Liquid Petroleum Gas

That this House welcomes the Government's commitment to improve national air quality; recognises the potential role for alternative fuels to petrol and diesel in achieving this goal; applauds the conversion of part of the Government car fleet to liquid petroleum gas; notes the positive effects of incentives to encourage long-term investment in the development and supply of automotive gas fuels in Australia; and calls on the Government to encourage the necessary degree of confidence amongst suppliers and consumers to facilitate LPG's significant contribution to sustainable development in this country, to consider reducing excise duties on LPG to the EU minimum fora guaranteed period and to consider reducing or removing, at no cost to the Exchequer, tax penalties which deter conversion of vehicles to LPG.
