Racing Industry
EDM number 704 in 1997-98, proposed by Laurence Robertson on 28/01/1998.
That this House asks the government to recognise the problems facing the racing industry; believes that these problems have come about largely because of Government regulation of the industry; therefore urges the Government to cut the betting duty from 6.75 per cent to 5 per cent, allowing the Levy Board to distribute the difference throughout racing; and also urges the government to consider making a measured deregulation of betting and racecourses.
This motion has been signed by a total of 42 MPs.
