Abolition Of Recommended Retail Prices In The Domestic Electrical Goods Market

EDM number 647 in 1997-98, proposed by David Chidgey on 14/01/1998.

That this House notes with concern proposals by the Department of Trade and Industry to abolish the recommended retail price; deplores the intention to substantially alter the trading arrangements of the Combined Independent Holdings Group; believes that the proposed changes will encourage monopolistic tendencies which are all too prevalent in this sector; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to reconsider the implications of these proposals for both the independent electrical retailers and consumers at large.

This motion has been signed by a total of 58 MPs.
