Silicone Implants (No. 2)
EDM number 521 in 1997-98, proposed by Ann Clwyd on 27/11/1997.
That this House welcomes the setting up of a review panel by Her Majesty's Government into the use of silicone breast implants; notes with concern the thousands of women around the world who have claimed symptoms of ill-health after having silicone implants inserted; further notes the alarming article published in the Lancet of 22nd November, which showed that 95 per cent of silicone breast implants can be expected to rupture 20 years after insertion; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to implement a moratorium on the use of silicone breast implants, until both the review panel and the manufacturers can prove, beyond reasonable doubt, the safety of these devices.
