South East Wales Ambulance Trust In Powys

EDM number 52 in 1997-98, proposed by Lembit Opik on 22/05/1997.

That this House has no confidence in the ability of the South East Wales Ambulance Trust to deliver a safe and effective ambulance service in Powys from its Pontypool headquarters due to its mothballing of the Radio Control Centre at Newtown, which has resulted in ambulances being misdirected many times to places in other counties and even to hospitals in other counties rather than those in Powys, thus putting people's lives at risk; and demands that an independent ambulance service be restored forthwith to Powys, run by local people with local knowledge, and that the Secretary of State for Wales holds an urgent review of the situation before lives are lost.

This motion has been signed by a total of 9 MPs.
