Animal Experiments In Laboratories
EDM number 496 in 1997-98, proposed by Paul Flynn on 25/11/1997.
That this House is shocked that in the post Cold War period of lessening international tension and reducing defence spending the previous Government increased experiments on living creatures in defence laboratories from 4,500 in 1992, to 8,700 in 1995 to 11,221 in 1997; urges the present Government to use non-animal, alternatives to the present experiments on monkeys, rabbits, pigs, sheep and other creatures; and looks forward to the present Government honouring the pre-election promise to 'forbid the use of animals in the testing and developments of weapons', by reducing the total of all animal procedures.
This motion has been signed by a total of 41 MPs.
