Administration Of The Electoral Process

EDM number 48 in 1997-98, proposed by Colin Burgon on 22/05/1997.

That this House, whilst acknowledging the wide popular mandate won by Labour on 1st May, recognises the need to maximise the participation of voters in the democratic process; and calls upon the Home Secretary to consider proposals, includiing those emanating from professional organisations representing electoral registration officers, whereby people excluded from the electoral role, as a result of a genuine administratve mistake, might be allowed to exercise their democratic right.
