That this House calls for urgent representations to be made by Her Majesty's Government, regarding the safety of eight East Timorese students who sustained serious gunshot wounds after a confrontation with Indonesian security forces at the University of East Timor in Dili on 14th November and whose whereabouts are unknown; notes that, according to Amnesty International, one student who was shot in the neck was forcibly removed from a Red Cross vehicle and severely beaten by police; understands that other wounded students have not been allowed humanitarian assistance; and emphasises once again that detainees in East Timor are routinely subjected to torture and ill treatment while in military or police custody.
