Restoration Of Trade Union Rights At Gchq
EDM number 46 in 1997-98, proposed by Tess Kingham on 22/05/1997.
That this House celebrates the Labour Government's early fulfilment of its manifesto pledge to restore full trade union rights at GCHQ; recognises the long struggle by former and current GCHQ staff to overturn the draconian ban on independent trade union activity imposed by the former Conservative Government; welcomes the recent decision to reinstate GCHQ workers under retirement age who were sacked for their trade union membership; and hopes that the new Labour Government will now look favourably at compensating those sacked workers under and over retirement age who did not find comparable work after leaving GCHQ and who have suffered as a result.
