Scottish £1 Banknote

EDM number 430 in 1997-98, proposed by Alex Salmond on 11/11/1997.

That this House recognises the importance of the £1 note to the people of Scotland and the widespread desire to keep this 270 year old monetary tradition alive; further recognises that the note issue has been extremely valuable to the Scottish commercial banks in both publicity and financial terms; calls for the continuation of the right of issue even given the advent of the Euro; and further calls upon the Royal Bank of Scotland to preserve this distinctive part of Scottish identity perhaps by more use of the successful commemorative issues for the £1 denomination note.

This motion has been signed by a total of 8 MPs.
