Raising Money For Charities Through Lotteries

EDM number 416 in 1997-98, proposed by Adrian Sanders on 10/11/1997.

That this House notes that there has been a 20 per cent. decline in charitable giving since 1993; welcomes the launch of Pronto, a new lottery to raise money for charity; acknowledges that 20 per cent. of the ú1 stake will go to named United Kingdom charities; including the Osteopathic Centre for Children, Mencap, Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity, the Samaritans and Help the Hospices, and that ú100 million could thus be raised each year; and therefore urges the Government to consult with these and other charities before reaching any decision which might impact on the use of Pronto as a tool for charitable giving.

This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
