Incinerators In The Medway Valley

EDM number 399 in 1997-98, proposed by Robert Marshall-Andrews on 05/11/1997.

That this House calls for a re-examination of the adoption of Kent County Council of the Kent Waste Local Plan, in particular the proposed building of incinerators at Halling and Kingsnorth; recognises the immense local protest at these proposals based upon concerns about health and safety and the proximity of the proposed incinerators to the homes of local residents and the imminent formation of the Medway Unitary Authority as the planning authority for the Medway area; and calls on the Minister for the Environment, the Right honourable Member for Oldham West and Royton, to intervene and call this application in, using his powers in PPG 12 Development Plan and Regional Planning Guidance Annex A Section 73 which states 'The Secretary of State may use his reserve power to call in all or part of a plan... where the plan gives rise to substantial controversy, for example, extending beyond the area of the plan-making authority'.

This motion has been signed by a total of 10 MPs.
