Hill Livestock Compensatory Allowances
EDM number 398 in 1997-98, proposed by Charles Kennedy on 05/11/1997.
That this House expresses deep concern that the level of hill livestock compensatory allowance payments has been decided upon by Her Majesty's Government before the review set up to re-examine the payments has been able to report its findings; recognises the vital importance of these payments in ensuring that environmentally-friendly farming continues in the less favoured areas; and calls upon the Government to reconsider the decision to freeze these payments at the 1996 level.
