Education In Hackney
EDM number 394 in 1997-98, proposed by Brian Sedgemore on 04/11/1997.
That this House fully supports the Government's decision to send an improvement team into Hackney to help the council provide a proper education service for its children; notes the measures proposed by the Improvement Team have the support of teachers, parents, school governors and Labour councillors; condemns the Chief Executive, Tony Elliston, for encouraging an anti-Labour coalition of councillors to further damage education in Hackney by rejecting the proposals of the Improvement Team; believes that for the Chief Executive to go to war with the people of Hackney and the Government is a madness that can only bring the borough into disrepute; condemns the Chief Executive to give Hackney's children a chance by resigning.
