Barclays Bank Dispute

That this House believes that Barclays Bank's refusal to use the conciliation services offered by ACAS, whilst the staff represented by the banking unions are willing to enter into such an arrangement, is an unsatisfactory response to the Government's recent statements that ACAS has a key role in employment relations and the service has a reputation for its impartiality and expertise in the employee relations field; and furthermore believes that the position of the Chief Executive of Barclays Bank, Martin Taylor, as the head of the Government's flagship Tax and Benefits Task Force, which has a remit to fulfil the objectives of promoting work incentives, reducing poverty and welfare dependency, and strengthening community and family, must be in question, when 25,000 of his own staff face the prospect of a pay freeze and reduction in pension entitlement, forcing some to claim state benefits to compensate.
