Northern Ireland And The Abortion Act

EDM number 352 in 1997-98, proposed by Martin Smyth on 27/10/1997.

That this House observes that throughout Northern Ireland the overwhelming majority of people, regardless of community or denomination, have a profound respect for human life including a resolute opposition to abortion; deeply regrets the recent call by radical pro-abortionists for legal changes to give easier access to abortion in Northern Ireland, either directly or through the guise of clarifying the law on abortion; and calls upon all Right honourable and honourable Members, and Her Majesty's Government to oppose any such changes in the law on abortion and their imposition upon the people of Northern Ireland despite the wishes of the vast majority of those people.

This motion has been signed by a total of 19 MPs, 2 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
