Climate Change Conference In Kyoto
EDM number 35 in 1997-98, proposed by Chris Ruane on 20/05/1997.
That this House, concerned at the magnitude of the threat caused by climate change and instability and aware that a considerable reduction in the rate of greenhouse gas emissions will be required in order to stabilise their concentration in the atmosphere, calls on the United Kingdom Government to adopt a constructive approach towards the Third Conference of the Parties of the Climate Change Convention in Kyoto in December, including support for strong international declarations on the subject at the Group of Seven Summit and Earth Summit Two, both to be held in June, support for an agreement in Kyoto containing specific targets, timetables, and instruments for implementation, support for the establishment of an absolute maximum limit on global greenhouse gas concentrations, and policies within the United Kingdom to reduce emissions, especially in the areas of transport and energy.
This motion has been signed by a total of 65 MPs.
