Disabled Access To Public Buildings
EDM number 347 in 1997-98, proposed by Mike Hancock on 27/10/1997.
That this House notes with concern that many public buildings in the United Kingdom fall well short of the standard required to allow access by all members of the community, including people with disabilities; recognises also the severe financial pressure under which many public bodies are currently operating; believes that such organisations will have considerable difficulty in making substantial progress towards full accessibility of buildings; and calls on the Government to review the restrictions on the use of National Lottery proceeds so that applications to existing buildings to permit use by people with disabilities will be possible.
