Murder Of Stephen Lawrence
EDM number 34 in 1997-98, proposed by Clive Efford on 20/05/1997.
That this House recalls the murder of Stephen Lawrence and offers its deepest sympathy to his family; notes the comments of the Coroner that he died in a cold blooded attack by a group of white youths for no other reason than that the colour of his skin was black; draws attention to the concern expressed by the Coroner and the widespread public concern regarding the role of the Metropolitan Police and the Crown Prosecution Service in events following this brutal racist murder; expresses concern that those who committed this murder have not been brought to justice; and calls upon the Secretary of State for the Home Department to set up a public inquiry to ensure that public confidence in the judicial system can be restored.
This motion has been signed by a total of 45 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
