Closure Of Services At Liverpool Blood Transfusion Centre
EDM number 30 in 1997-98, proposed by Louise Ellman on 20/05/1997.
That this House deplores the proposal by the National Blood Authority to remove blood processing from the Liverpool centre, resulting from cut-backs in the service under the last Conservative Government; notes that this would mean the whole region would be reliant for blood processing on one centre and that this would have serious implications, particularly for the production of platelets; further notes that this work is labour-intensive and that the centre is vital in motivating the blood donors across Merseyside and North Wales; and therefore urges the new Government to intervene to consider the implications of closure with the objective of securing the future of the centre serving Merseyside and North Wales.
